This is a unique opportunity for an experienced fire prevention and Community Risk Reduction professional to step into a Division Chief-level position, join the Department's Command Staff, and have the freedom to develop a Community Risk Reduction Division with the support and resources to make it successful.

The Fire Marshal reports directly to the Fire Chief and serves as a member of the Department’s Command Staff. The leadership philosophy is straightforward.

 MORE THAN INSPECTIONS AND CODE ENFORCEMENT

We believe Community Risk Reduction is much bigger than a traditional fire prevention division. Our vision integrates fire prevention, inspections, plans review, public education, pre-incident planning, data analysis, community partnerships, and operational risk reduction into a comprehensive CRR program.

Just as importantly, CRR and Operations work together in Englewood.  

Our firefighters aren’t separated from prevention, they are part of it. We believe the people responding to emergencies should understand the risks within their community, and the people working to prevent those emergencies should have a strong relationship with Operations.

 The next Fire Marshal will have the opportunity to strengthen that relationship and develop a CRR program that becomes an integral part of how our Department serves the community.

ENGLEWOOD FIRE DEPARTMENT

JOB TYPE: FIRE INSPECTOR
LOCATION: Englewood, FL ​
​STARTING SALARY:  $60,000

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for conducting fire safety inspections in accordance with all State, Federal, and County codes, rules, regulations, resolutions, and ordinances for the district. This position requires a self- motivated individual with the ability to multitask. The individual will be representing the department during their daily activities. This position will work under the general supervision of the Fire Marshal. Fire Prevention contains five (4) distinct activities; Fire Code Inspection & Enforcement, Fire Life Safety Plan Review, Fire Protection Systems, and Public Education–Special Event programs.

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate
• Current and valid Florida Class E Driver's License.
• Current and valid Florida Fire Safety Inspector I certification.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate degree or higher
• Current and valid Florida Minimum Standards Firefighter Certification. 
• Current and valid Florida EMT or Paramedic Certification.
• Florida Fire Investigator certification.
• Experience in the installation and/or maintenance of fire protection systems

JOB TYPE: FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC
LOCATION: Englewood, FL ​
​STARTING SALARY:  $72,688

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, perform responsible public safety work involving protecting life and property. Respond to alarms and prevent and extinguish fires; respond to rescue calls; respond to medical incidents and render emergency and non-emergency care; engage in fire codes enforcement, public education, station, apparatus, and equipment maintenance activities; and perform related work as required. Respond and assist in the mitigation of technical rescue and hazardous materials incidents. Maintain a constant state of readiness and preparedness for any emergency within the Englewood Area Fire Control District. Duties involve an element of personal danger. This position operates under the supervision of a Company Officer, Division or Group Supervisor, or Incident Commander. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

•Must be 18 years of age or older.
•High school graduate or possess a GED Equivalency Certificate.
•Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
•Valid Florida Class E or Commercial Driver's License.
•Must have a safe driving record.
•Valid State of Florida Firefighter I/II Certificate of Compliance/Minimum Standards
•Valid EMT or Paramedic certification issued by the State of Florida
•Valid CPR-Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider or equivalent.
•Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent - Paramedics
•NIMS Incident Command Position Certifications: I-100, I-200, I-700, and I-800.
•Must be tobacco-free for at least one year prior to employment.
•Must remain tobacco-free during employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

•Associates degree or higher in the Fire Protection discipline or related field.
