The Englewood Area Fire Control District operates the Englewood Fire Department utilizing seven fire stations and a professional staff of 57 firefighter/EMT's assigned to three shifts.  A minimum of 15 FF/EMT's are on duty each day. The professional firefighters are supplemented by 32 volunteer firefighter/EMTs

The Englewood Fire Department provides service to 83 square miles of Charlotte and Sarasota Counties, extending from South Venice in Sarasota County, to the Lee County line.

4/2/2014    Monday, Application packages available for $10 processing fee.

6/13/2014   Friday, Completed applications due by 4:00 PM.

6/18/2014  Wednesday, Practice Ability Test at 9:00 AM. There is a $25 participation fee.

6/21/2014  Saturday, Ability Test at 9:00 AM

6/25/2014    Wednesday, Mandatory meeting at 5:00 PM to review application and collect tuition payment.

7/7/2014   Monday, Class Starts.

Course tuition, rentals and book costs are as follows:

No cash will be accepted

Firefighter I, II, First Responder, Books, Uniforms, Survival Kit, SCBA,  and Safety Gear


Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by E.F.T.C.

Students will be responsible to purchase their own Fire Boots and Fire Hood. These items can be purchased on-line or through Ten-8 Fire Equipment in Bradenton, 1-800-228-8368.

All costs/fees will be paid to the E.F.T.C. in the form of a personal check, money order or cashiers check. Any returned checks will be charged an administrative fee of $25.00.


The Englewood Area Fire Control District is a self governing "special fire district" established by the Florida Legislature in 1983.  It is an independent governmental unit funded by a non-ad valorm assessment.

The Englewood Area Fire Control District  has a year round population of over 50,000 expanding to over 80,000 "in season"
