Battalion Chief Al Sardina - A Shift

Chief Sardina is a 21 year veteran of the Englewood Fire Department.  He joined the department in 1985 as a volunteer firefighter, in 1986 he was hired full time as a firefighter.   He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1996,  to Battalion Chief in 2003

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibility of the three Battalion Chiefs, is officer in command of his shift.  They work a 24 hour shift and respond to all fires, vehicle accidents, Hazardous Materials incidents, and other major emergencies.  They are responsible for all scheduling, staffing and personnel on their shift

Education and Training.

Chief Sardina has extensive specialized training and certifications including:  numerous National Fire Academy courses, State Certification as Fire Officer, Fire Instructor I, Haz Mat Operations level, Confined Spaces and Emergency Medical Technician.  He has completed 3 years of College.

Personal Data

He lives in Englewood with his wife Kathie and their 2 children - 1 boy & 1 girl.  A daughter and 2 grandchildren live in Miami..   His hobbies include fishing, diving and painting.
